Principal's Message

Welcome back to the new school year!!!

We are so excited to welcome back our Shelyn Sharks and welcome new Sharks. We look forward to working with you and your children in the coming year.

At Shelyn our focus is on giving our littlest learners a strong start and helping our older students have equitable access to academic success. These goals stem from RUSD’s Promise to Students. We will continue to nurture and develop strong readers and writers focusing on foundational skills and all aspects of a balanced literacy program. Literacy is the foundation for all the learning we do in our lifetime. At Shelyn we strive to foster a love for reading and writing in our students alongside giving them the tools and skills to access the literature they love. We continue to use a student-centered approach, where each child's unique abilities and interests are honored, enabling them to develop their skills and grow as confident learners.

We also seek to develop all of our students as mathematicians so they feel confident and are able to tackle any math concept.  By using student centered math students are empowered to think critically, problem-solve, and apply mathematical concepts in real-world situations. We seek to further enhance our students' mathematical proficiency and prepare them for future success.

Our PTA is busy planning out events for the year. Every class experiences a field trip or special event (Gold Rush Day & Lord Cornwallis’s 33rd Regiment). We held Trunk and Treat, Movie Night, and students were thrilled with their Student Fun Day. This was all made possible by your donations during our PTA fundraising drive. I encourage you to continue your support, and, if it interests you, join this dynamic team of parents.

As we embark on this new school year, each and every person in our team of educators and staff look to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for your children. The partnership between home and school is invaluable to us and part of what makes Shelyn so very special. Know you can always approach staff as we have many avenues to enable open communication throughout the year.

Thank you for giving us your most precious gift, your children, to teach and learn with every day. I am sure, together we can make the year a fantastic one!

Warmest regards,
