Dear Parents,
As you know, it is imperative for schools to provide a safe environment for optimal student learning. Shelyn Elementary School is proactive in establishing new procedures as well as enforcing old procedures relating to the safety of children. The school deeply appreciates the many hours of time and effort that is volunteered to the school by parents. It definitely contributes to the success and enrichment of Shelyn. In no way do we want to discourage or deter the wonderful intentions of our volunteers. However, it is important for the safety of all our students, staff, and volunteers, that the office know who is on our campus and their destination. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated.
EVERY PARENT and/or VISITOR MUST CHECK INTO THE OFFICE AND WEAR A STICKER BEFORE ENTERING THROUGH GATES, ENTERING CLASSROOMS OR BUILDINGS.
PARKING LOT
1. One way traffic – Enter through Arcdale driveway only, exit through the Nacora driveway only.
2. Once inside the cones (next to the curb inside parking lot), DO NOT leave your car unattended. As students are picked up, traffic moves forward.
3. Students are allowed to enter and exit cars only inside the yellow loading zone between cones.
4. If you need to get out of your car, park along the street curb.
5. Students MAY NOT be in the parking lot at any time without an adult.
6. Students are to use crosswalks when crossing the street alone.
7. Any time a student crosses the street outside crosswalks, he/she MUST BE ACCOMPANIED by an ADULT WHO TAKES FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CHILD’S SAFETY.
8. The red curb is the BUS ZONE, do NOT PARK in the red curb area.
DROP OFF & PICK UP
School begins at 8:15 a.m. for all students. Supervision is provided at 8:00 a.m., therefore students should not be dropped off before that time. (Participants in the Options Program would be an exception).
Students must be picked up on time. Daily dismissal times are:
Kindergarten 1:30
Grades 1 – 3 2:20
Grades 4 – 6 2:35
When picking up your child from the curb of the parking lot, please use caution and keep the safety of our children and others in mind. To ease the congestion, all cars will be asked to move forward one car length every minute after the 2:20 dismissal. The idea is to keep traffic moving and allow all parents the opportunity to get to the pick up area and be on their way. Parents of upper grade children are encouraged to wait until 2:30 to get in the pick up line. If you have both a primary and upper grade student, you may need to go through the line twice, but if the line is moving forward, it should be a shorter wait for everyone. There is no supervision provided for students after 10 minutes beyond dismissal time, therefore it is important for parents to be punctual when picking up your children.
