ATTENDANCE

It is important for students to come to school on time everyday. Students cannot learn unless they attend school regularly. Student tardiness and early dismissals not only reduce individual learning time, but also impair a teacher’s instructional time and time on task for other students. A student who is two minutes late each day loses 1-1/2 full days of instruction each year. Tardiness at the elementary level sets up a life time habit of tardiness.

Shelyn offers a Perfect Attendance Incentive Program to all students in grades Kindergarten through Sixth. Each trimester, all K-6 students with NO ABSENCES, TARDIES or EARLY DISMISSALS will be recognized with a “Certificate of Attendance.”

WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE
1. Make medical and dental appointments before school or after school.
(Be sure to be at school before 8:15 a.m., there are no “excused” tardies)
2. Establish a morning routine for you and your child that will get him/her to school on time without stress.
3. Get children to bed early enough to ensure a good night’s sleep.
4. Prepare school clothes, homework, and lunches in advance to avoid last minute confusion.
