The Rowland Unified School District Dual Language Immersion programs begin in Kindergarten and are open to students within Rowland Unified and to students that reside outside the District. Kindergarten is for children who will turn five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2023 for the 2023-2024 school year.
The two way Mandarin Dual Language Immersion Program at Shelyn Elementary offers students a 50/50 English and Mandarin instructional model. Where English speakers and Mandarin speakers learn to think, read, write and speak naturally in two languages, in Chinese and English. All students at Shelyn Elementary also take part in Mandarin enrichment each week. We currently offer Mandarin Dual Immersion in grades K, 1, 2, 3 and 4 will expand to 5th grade in the 2023-2024 school year.
This is an exciting, enriching and challenging educational opportunity for 21st century learning. Students learn to collaborate, communicate, and think critically and creatively in all academic content areas in both languages.
