COMMUNITY MAKES HOLIDAY BASKETS FOR NEEDY FAMILIES

Walnut Valley Rotary, students and District Staff Join Effort

The community gathered Saturday to assembly holiday baskets for families in need across the Rowland Unified School District. Superintendent Ruben Frutos joined students to form an assembly lie as they unloaded more than 120 turkeys for Christmas dinners.

“I would like to send out a heartfelt THAK YOU on behalf of the over 200 families that were supported during their time of struggle,” wrote coordinator Guillermo Munoz, principal at Santana High School.

“I would also like to thank Luciano De Sylva and his Walnut Valley Rotarians for putting this together again for the RUSD families,” Munoz said.

He also thanked all the students and staff who sent in donations of $2 and canned goods.

A large assembly line of students and community members gathered at 6 a.m. Saturday at Alvarado Intermediate to put together the holiday baskets complete with a turkey for families preselected throughout the District.

Starting at 1 p.m. families arrived to pick up the baskets. The holiday program was a joint effort of the Rowland High Interact Club, Santana, Rowland and Nogales Highs’ ASB, District employees, Walnut Valley Rotary Club and community volunteers.
